What Size System do I Need?

The amount of electricity you use is measured in "kilowatt-hours", abbreviated "KWH".. (One kilowatt is equal to 1000 watts.)  KWH are calculated by multiplying the power (in watts) by the amount of time the power is used (in hours). For example, if 1000 watts are used for one hour, the energy usage would be 1000 watt-hours or 1 KWH. If 500 watts are used for eight hours, it would be 4000 watt-hours or 4 KWH.

Electric utility providers usually show the monthly or daily electricity usage in KWH. Looking at this figure on your utility bill is a good place to start in estimating what size solar-electric system you will need. Then see the tables on the "Cost" page.

Conservation will also lower your energy requirements, such as insulating, replacing older energy-inefficient appliances, and converting to gas appliances. For every $1 spent on energy efficiency, $3-5       are saved on the cost of your solar system!

"We would like to thank you and your staff for designing and installing our 36 panel solar system. We have been 'online' for 9 months and the system has performed perfectly. The installation took place in a professional and timely manner and we especially appreciate your making yourself available should any problem arise in the future. We have experienced a significant decrease in our electric bill and feel we have made a conscious decision in the well being of the environment. Last but not least, we know this system has added significant resale value to our home."
